Mother of 4 Children
I am a Registered Midwife and practicing Public
Health Nurse and an International Board Certificate
Lactation Consultant. I have been facilitating Antenatal
Classes for the past 10 years. I believe in continued
personal and professional development and attend
workshops on the subject of antenatal education
on a regular basis from various authors.
I am currently undertaking a Higher Diploma in Antenatal
Teaching with the Bedfordshire University. I am
committed to helping women antenatal / breastfeeding.
I trained as a Registered General Nurse at Stoke
Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, Buckingham, England,
qualifying in 1991. I completed my Midwifery training
in 1995 in the school of Midwifery, Cork, where
I gained valuable experience in all aspects of maternity
care. In 1998, I graduated with a Higher Diploma
in Public Health Nursing, from U.C.C and continue
to practice as a Public Health Nurse in Co. Kerry.
I have worked closely with young families for many
years, supporting them to develop secure and happy
relationships. I am also an International Board
Certified Lactation Consultant who is committed
to helping women with breastfeeding. The best way
to do this is through education and support. I have
facilitated antenatal classes for many years. I
believe Education empowers women with knowledge
and understanding to birth their babies in awareness.
My goal is for women and their birth companions
to be informed so they then can make the best choices
for themselves and their babies.
I believe in continued personal and professional
development. I have undertaken a Bsc in Nursing,
a diploma in Massage, an intensive six week Midwifery
update in 2008 in the Cork University Maternity
Hospital and many more relevant courses. I attend
many workshops on the subject of antenatal education
and breastfeeding on an annual basis. I am currently
undertaking a Higher Diploma in Antenatal Teaching
with the NCT and Bedfordshire University, England.
I live outside Killarney with my husband and four
children of which I have gained considerable insight
and understanding and continue to learn through
the parenting of my own children.
Becoming a mother can undoubtedly be one of the
most life-changing events in a womans life,
it is a powerful yet at the same time can be challenging.
From both a professional and personal perspective
I believe that education and support can have a
positive effect on how a woman adapts to motherhood.
Becomingamum classes aim to empower and support
women and families through this extraordinary time
in their lives.
